Château Mouillepied
110 km North of Bordeaux and 30 km to the Atlantic coast beaches, between Royan and Cognac, near Saintes, in the Charente's valley. We would like to share with you the sweet life "en Pays Charentais". In 1638, the Sénéchal Lord of Mouillepied had to pay homage to the Count of Taillebourg. In the 18th century, Chateau Mouillepied was enlarged by the chief engineer of the Rochefort arsenal, Guillaume Clairins des Lauriers, Knight of Saint Michel. It became a lovely classical house, with terraced gardens and ponds surrounded by aesthetic stone walls underlining the small valley overlooked by the castle.
Your walks on the domain (104 acres) give you the opportunity to embark in unique photography amongst the wildlife and the landscapes (wooden walks, brooks) and relics of the past (pigeon house, fish pond, fountain...). In our public lounges, you can relax around the fire place, or on warmer days under the trees where you can serve yourself with your favorite tea or coffee, free of charge. The Saintes markets .Take a fishing boat from the Côtinière's harbour. The oysters of Marennes. The vineyards of Cognac, the Pineau wine and the much improved "vins du pays" all will excite the taste buds.
