Fronsac belonged to the English Crown. It has been also a Protestant town, before falling into the hands of French kings, thanks to Cardinal de Richelieu.
The seigniory of Fronsac then has been passed to the Cardinal’s family. Cardinal’s nephew, Marshall of Richelieu (a friend of Casanova) introduced at the Court of Versailles the wine of Fronsac.
Château Richelieu was one of the wine estates in Bordeaux of the famous Cardinal and his family (Richelieu also owned the vineyards of Château Haute-Brion).
Château Richelieu is today a property of 17 ha with a vineyard of 14 ha.
Château Richelieu has opened its doors after the 2006 harvest to welcome guests in its five carefully designed and luxurious rooms, each with individual bath room.
You will enjoy a fabulous stay in a great wine region.
Great hikes through our vineyards, relaxing at our swimming pool, visiting Libourne, Bordeaux or Saint Émilion. There are many alternatives for you to savour your visit at Chateau Richelieu.
