Château de la Rivière
On the remains of a fortified tower built by Charlemagne, Château de La Rivière was constructed in 1577 by Gaston de l'Isle, mayor of Bordeaux and restored by Viollet-le-Duc. Located at the West of Libourne, it dominates the Dordogne valley and the 60 hectares of its vineyards. Respected as one of the finest wine in Fronsac, Château de La Rivière is powerful, rich and fruity, with the strong reflexion of its terroir. Aged for 12 to 15 months in amazing caves, this wine ages wonderfully. The arms' room, the chapel, the ladies' bath and the underground cellars constitute an outstanding architectural heritage open to the public combining in a unique way wine and history. The 8 hectares of underground cellars are also open for tours: more than 1,000 barrels and 900,000 bottles are stored. This chateau also suggests to rent the arms' room for meetings, meals or cocktails. This place is also a way to enter the world of relaxation and refinement : five luxury bed and breakfasts have been entirely restored in the Renaissance wing. Come and discover chateau's lifestyle !
